History
The seeds of World Wide Wood Network® were sown years ago. The company is
physically located in the small, rural, Pacific Northwest community of Yelm,
Washington; once a virtual mecca for timber harvesting and manufacturing in the early 1900's.
The co-founders and owners have roots deep in the Wood Products Industry.
Our C.E.O. and co-founder is a second-generation lumberman whose early ancestors built the first sawmill in the
United States in New England in the mid 1600's. The remaining
owner's family was a significant force in the foundation of the Wood Products
Industry in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest, by bringing their
sawmill expertise and investments from the mid-west to join the
Weyerhaeuser family; creating the current Weyerhaeuser Company in the late 1800's.
The vision for World Wide Wood Network® was initially formed in November
1999. After some months of market and technical research, the founders
incorporated the company in February 2000. Initial software tools and platforms were
chosen in March 2000, and system
design began shortly thereafter. The full Board of Directors held their first
meeting in March 2000, and the management team was selected over the next few months.
Version 1.0 of the patent pending
Commerce Platform was ready for testing
in the Fall of 2000. The first demonstration model was unveiled at the North American
Wholesale Lumber Association's Trader's Market in Dallas, Texas in November 2000. Our trading exchange was
rolled out to Development members beginning March 2001 only one year after the company's inception.
As a result of our customers' input we rolled out our Supplier Managed Inventory Module in December 2001.
Our history is in the making!
